Bollywood super star Aamir Khan has done it again hitting the jackpot for the third year in a row, thedailystar.net quoted on Friday.
According to the report, his comedy-drama “3 Idiots” has created a record by grossing Rs100 crore in its first four days of screening, the film’s distributor Reliance BIG Entertainment said.
The distributor belonging to Anil Ambani group of industries released about 2,000 prints of the film across 40 countries and its box office collection has beaten the initial earnings of another Aamir-starrer “Ghajini”, considered Hindi cinema’s highest grosser till date, with 30 percent more earnings till Sunday night, website said.
Aamir has thus achieved a “hat-trick” of delivering a super-hit film for the third year in succession beginning with “Taare Zameen Par” in 2007.
Inspired by well-known writer Chetan Bhagat’s bestseller “Five Point Someone”, “3 Idiots”, featuring Aamir, Madhavan, Sharman Joshi and Kareena Kapoor in lead roles, has been produced by Vidhu Vinod Chopra and directed by Raj Kumar Hirani.
Further website quoted, “The ramp-up to Rs100 crore in four days is phenomenal and we are confident that the film will continue to blaze new records in the weeks to come,” said Amit Khanna, Chairman, Reliance Big Entertainment, in a statement.
Vidhu Vinod Chopra said the response to the film “has been overwhelming from all over the world. Aamir, Raju and I knew from the responses earlier on that people liked the film but this is something else. We have got reports from places like Australia that they have reduced “Avatar” shows and increased ours.”
”3 Idiots” is the highest grossing Hindi film ever in Australia on its opening weekend. Similarly in the US, I have been given to understand that “3 Idiots” would be highest ever for a Hindi film,” said Chopra, the website added.
